FAQs
I am being chased for a debt 15 years old, i have no plans to shift to the UAE., although i might visit. Do Debts expire at all?

Most of the banks will also stop following up on debt that is older than 8-10 years depending on the bank’s rules and the country’s laws. But sadly that’s not the case with every bank. We have also had families of debtors come to us asking for advice they are being approached by collection agencies 10 years after the debtor is dead. This is simply because it surely costs the bank close to nothing to have their old defaulters followed up not in monetary terms nor in terms of their brand name.

Why should i choose GCCDEBT and not a law firm?

The biggest reason for this is that we charge a fraction of what it would cost you to go to a law firm. As we don’t bill you by the clock so it is not in our best interest if your account takes longer to close. Hence you save on time too. The third most important reason is that you or the law firm you hire will never be able to get the offers and discounts from the banks that we do or even have that kind of negotiation power over the banks that we do.

Can an unpaid liability, affect my credit score in another country?

No, unless the bank or NBFC has been able to try you in another country, they will usually be successful in getting a judgment in their favor. But getting the same in another country is a different story. So no it does not affect your credit score unless the case is transferred to your country. For instance India “The Indian government on January 17 issued a notification allowing the decrees of certain UAE courts in civil cases to be enforceable in India.” If that happens it will be treated just as a debt unpaid by you in your own home country.

Can i be arrested at a GCC airport even if i have a connecting flight to Canada?

Yes, if there is a travel ban in place, it is also possible that you will be arrested if there is a halt at any GCC airport.

Can my assets be frozen in my home country because of my debts in the GCC?

Yes, it can although it is also not as easy and quick for the banks to execute it is quite possible. Especially with the UAE debts as the UAE government is pushing really hard to recover their bank’s bad debts. This will be first tested with corporate loans, Business loans, and SME loans. Because they are higher in value later on moving to retail, starting with India. “The Indian government on January 17 2020 issued a notification allowing the decrees of certain UAE courts in civil cases to be enforceable in India.”
